The lineup for The Incredibles III this day were veritable rookies. Neither Andrew Chung, Andrew Wong, nor Wen Huang had ever entered a USATT sanctioned tournament. Their BATTF rating was based solely on the USATT singles league rating they received from participating in the Milpitas Sports Center round robin. This rating would be severely tested. Their opponents from Palo Alto fielded a lineup of veterans with a combined total experience of over 60 USATT sanctioned tournaments (that's right - tournaments not just matches).

The lack of experience was evident in the nervous play of both Andrews as they were making many unforced errors. This new environment took them out of their comfort zone and they found it difficult to show their true skills. In fact Andrew Wong said after his doubles match, "I felt like a zombie out there. I wasn't able to do anything".

We got a bit nervous ourselves during the doubles as he missed almost every forehand in the first two games of this crucial match. But teammate Patrick Wu arrived on the scene then and his presence had a calming influence on the entire team. Later Patrick called a timeout at a critical moment that helped us win the doubles.

That doubles result turned out to be the difference. We were able to come through again and win yet another close tie. After all these super competitive BATTF league matches, I don't think there will be any "rookies" left for long on The Incredibles III.

The Incredibles III march on!
